Today, I finally caught up with Matthias Schweighofer, who, along with his wife, is currently on a book tour. Matthias, in his book The Three Levels of Self-Awareness and his blog The Togglian Book, has discussed the importance of mindfulness and self-awareness. He has written some great books, and the way he articulates the concepts is a must-read for anyone who wants to live and work in a more mindful way.
Matthias is a man that I feel comfortable calling a “Togglian.” He’s a German and a writer in his 20s. He’s not afraid to take a chance, but he wants to see himself reflected in the work he does. The title of his blog is inspired by the two levels of self-awareness he discusses in his books about mindfulness and how to live.
We are all Togglians. Self-awareness is not just a skill, but a way to live. Whether you are a writer or a philosopher, a physician or a musician, there is something about you that you can’t control that you can’t control. When you have self-awareness, you can take control of what is important in your life. You can take control of your feelings, your actions, and even your thoughts.
In the new book “Mindfulness: The Power of Mindfulness in a Distracted World” he goes on to say that we are all Togglians. That means we are all born with an inner compass (the GPS) that allows us to make sense of the world around us. Self-awareness is the ability to keep track of our inner compass, and to learn what makes sense in that direction. There is no single formula for self-awareness because many factors come into play.
Matthias’ book has been published in German since the early 2000s. I think the first time that he wrote something in English was for a book about mindfulness. It’s great to see that he’s still writing about mindfulness and self-awareness in English.
I think Matthias is one of the most interesting figures I have met in the online world. An avid student, he speaks fluent German, and has a PhD in English. It seems that his writing is on the verge of reaching a level of sophistication which most of today’s writers have not reached. I’d say its a good thing that Matthias is still writing in English. He was born in Germany, but now lives in the United States.

Matthias Schweighöfer is a man of many talents. At one time he was a police officer, and then he was a professor of computer science, but his best work has always been as a writer. He’s been published in magazines and newspapers, and his books have been turned into movies and even some television shows (the only one he’s actually seen is the 1999 film “The Selfish Brain”). So, there you have it.
