The Clarice Smith performing arts center located in San Francisco was a very important part of San Francisco’s cultural life in the 1960s and 70s. I first visited the Clarice in the 1980s when I was working on a book that I never finished. So I was very excited to check out the performance arts center when I first moved to the city in 2003. That was when I learned that the center was being demolished.
The Clarice Smith was a very important part of San Francisco’s culture, because the Clarice was the one place in the city where San Franciscans could come and listen to an African-American singer called “The clarice smith,” a member of the folk singing and performing arts group called the clarice smith.
Well, yes, the Clarice was a very important part of San Francisco’s culture, but the fact that the city was being demolished to make room for the new Clarice Smith Theater was pretty much a complete surprise to most people at the time.
This is what happened in San Francisco, and the whole thing is really quite a story. During the late 19th and early 20th century, San Francisco was the center of many African-American communities, and the Clarice Smith Theater was a big part of this.
Many have argued that San Francisco was built up by African-Americans, who were able to live in greater security than other neighborhoods, due to the Clarice. In fact, many city leaders were very supportive of African-American culture, and they had a big part to play in the creation of the Clarice.
The Clarice Smith Theater was built in response to a particularly violent episode of the Civil War. A group of black men were lynched by the sheriff of San Francisco, and a group of whites from around the country decided that a black theater would be a good idea. To make the theater even safer, the theater was built using thousands of donated bricks.
The Clarice Smith Theater was originally the home of The Clarice Smith Opera Company. The opera company was founded by a German woman named Clarice Smith, who created this theater in 1892 with the help of the local community. The opera company had about 300 members by the end of the year, so it is not surprising that Smith’s theater and the theater company would become intertwined.
When Smith was born she was the oldest of nine children. When she was ten years old, the family moved to Chicago. Smith had a variety of jobs, including being a teacher and a seamstress. She was also a talented musician, and she taught herself how to play the guitar. At the age of 26 she had her own musical group called The Clarice Smith Singers. This group, which included Smith as a well-known member, performed at several churches across the United States.
At a certain point in my life, I was invited to perform in Chicago, and so I joined The Clarice Smith Singers. I’ve performed in a number of concerts and events over the years, including the Clarice Smith Concerts in London, Germany, Vienna, and Paris.
This is where the story really kicks into gear. Smith was a pretty famous clarinetist (the “Clarice Smiths” were the musicians who played the clarinet parts in the classic movie “The Pajama Game”), so she was able to perform in a lot of important, high-profile venues. When she was invited to perform in Chicago, I think she was at the peak of her fame.
